No wonder Palestinian militants are blowing themselves up. I did not dream of this responsibility and this great honor. I do believe this book is worthy because it uses real details from what actually happened not rumors he heard about it. But at the same time I had this feeling of the Israeli state as being inherently good. I was introduced to this book several years ago, when my children were still small and I wanted to find a way to introduce them to this matter but felt that the books I had read on it were too grim to share.

What behind-the-scenes politics touched off the turmoil in the Middle East? God called on Elias to bring peace between Arabs and Jews. After finishing the book, I wondered if Chacour were still living. They have lived in poverty and fear.

It started out promising with the child whose home is taken but then goes off to a fancy school. This book was written based on the life of Elias Chacour. Elias, seeing the lack of educational opportunities for Arab youth beyond the 8th grade, set about creating a school open to all local children, regardless of religious affiliation.


Several people from my church started a Holy Land team and regularly visit Palestine. Growing up in Palestine he dealt with everyday hatred and persecution, becoming an exile in his own land. It has always been my experience in the past that i do not enjoy nonfiction and that is definitely still true. Following Jesus means we hunger and thirst for righteousness, that we not just find out the wrong that has been done, but that we seek to bring healing where there is injury, hope where there is darkness and despair.
